Tara Milliken has been painting and drawing as long as she can remember. She paints in acrylics and watercolors, but will also use whatever else she needs to express her ideas. She enjoys painting exotic birds, landscapes and flowers, but for the last few years she has been delving into the abstract side of her art and experimenting with a lot of different techniques, mediums and surfaces. She is using her experimentations in both realism and abstract ways.
She was born and raised in Seattle, Washington, but after being in the Marine Corps for 8 years she ended up in Orlando, Florida. Work took her to Houston and then to Tennessee, but she moved to back to Lakeland, Florida a few years ago, and began painting full time. She is currently working to complete a course curriculum she began many years ago in graphic arts, but had to put aside for a family emergency.
She has entered several shows and juried competitions in the area and has won several awards. This last year she has began to branch out into shows in the surrounding area. She enjoys experimenting with different ways of expression. She is currently a representative of Grumbacher teaching Acrylics for Beginners in 5 Central Florida and Tampa Bay area Michaels Arts and Crafts and is president of Bartow Art Guild in Bartow, Florida.
